Valiathura Pier at Thiruvananthapuram which is close to the international airport and Shangumugham beach is place of scenic beauty. Its about 7 Km from the city. I have been to this place many times. Any time I reach this place the ambiance of the place will be different. Its the ambiance created mainly by the sea, the people, the climate and the hour of the day. Once when I reached during mid noon the sea was all green and all the fisherman was out in the sea. Being a summer day, there were lot of boys swimming in the sea.

The sky and the sea was so beautiful, that I got lot of good pictures during that visit. I could see a jelly fish and other small fishes in the sea. I could see fisherman out on small catamarans fitted with blue sail. The site was awesome. There were also local people playing cards sitting under the pier.

During one of my previous visits, during monsoon the scene was totally different. At that time, the sea was deep blue with all its vengeance smashing on to the shore. Giant waves approaching one after the other was a scary scene.

One more beautiful site not to be missed is the sunset from the pier. The sunset being watched from the beach and the one being watched from a pier is slightly different. Its something to be felt just like the difference between riding a bike and driving a car. When you are riding a bike its like feeling closer to reality, being more  vulnerable and adventurous. So is watching sea or viewing sunset sitting at the edge of a pier.

Another thing is about the culture of the people who lives there. They are more raw people who lives in colonies and mostly depended on fishing.
